About DiscussChess

A fan's notes on the game. The players, the history, the openings, the great games.

DiscussChess is a fan site. Written by an enthusiast, around 600 ELO, who reads a lot about chess and writes about what's interesting. Not a coach, not an expert, not the place for advice you'd actually act on at the board.

The chess analysis here comes from primary sources: annotated game collections by the players themselves, FIDE records, tournament bulletins, and named journalists who cover the game. The site's job is curation and storytelling, in plain English, for people who like chess.

What you'll find here

Player profiles, opening summaries, famous games, tournament history, and book and equipment recommendations sourced from people who actually know the game. Good starting points: the Magnus Carlsen and Garry Kasparov profiles, the Sicilian Defense overview, and the Immortal Game.
